MG Windsor EV Real-World Range Revealed

The brand’s most recent electric vehicle is the MG Windsor EV, which joins the ZS EV and the Comet EV in the lineup. This electric crossover is designed for urban mobility, offering a comfortable and feature-rich cabin while also being available with an optional battery rental program. The manufacturer claims a wide range, but actual conditions frequently reveal otherwise. A recent test was conducted to see how far the Windsor EV could travel on a single charge, providing a practical insight into its efficiency.

The Windsor EV has a single electric motor that produces 200 Nm of torque and 136 PS of power thanks to its 38 kWh battery pack. In accordance with the MIDC testing cycle, the manufacturer’s official figures indicate that the electric vehicle can travel 332 kilometers on a single charge. However, in real-world driving conditions, various factors such as road conditions, traffic, and driving style can influence the actual range.

The Windsor EV was able to achieve a controlled test range of 260 kilometers, which is about 70 kilometers less than the claimed range, but still a respectable performance for short trips and daily commutes. The novel battery rental program offered by the manufacturer is one of this EV’s most distinctive features. Customers can save money on their initial purchase by selecting this option, which allows them to deduct the cost of the battery from the price of the vehicle.

Under this plan, owners are required to pay a usage-based fee of Rs 3.5 per kilometer. In addition, in order to guarantee optimal performance, the battery needs to be recharged every 1,500 kilometers. This approach makes electric mobility more accessible to customers who may not want to invest in an EV battery upfront, thereby reducing ownership costs while providing flexibility.

The Windsor EV’s cabin was designed with connectivity and modern comfort in mind. At the heart of the vehicle is a massive touchscreen infotainment system with 15.6 inches of display. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for seamless smartphone integration. The vehicle is also equipped with a premium 9-speaker Infinity sound system, ensuring an immersive audio experience for occupants. A wireless phone charging pad, automatic climate control, and a panoramic glass roof that increases the cabin’s sense of openness and space are other notable features.

Although the Windsor EV has a long list of features for convenience and comfort, it does not have an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a technology that is becoming more and more common in modern EVs. However, the vehicle comes equipped with a robust safety package that includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera for improved parking visibility, and hill-hold assist, which stops the vehicle from rolling backward on inclines. In terms of competition, the Windsor EV takes on other electric crossovers such as the Tata Nexon EV and the Mahindra XUV 3XO. Both of these models have gained popularity in the market due to their blend of affordability, range, and feature sets.

The Windsor EV is a compelling alternative in this expanding market thanks to its distinctive battery rental model and well-equipped interior. Pricing for the Windsor EV starts at Rs 10 lakh and goes up to Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom, pan-India), making it a competitive option in its category. With a strong feature set, decent real-world range, and the flexibility of battery rental, this EV is positioned as an attractive choice for buyers looking for an affordable electric crossover. Offerings like the Windsor EV are anticipated to play a crucial role in shaping the future of urban transportation as the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise.
